Memento Mori is Latin for "Remember your Death in Christ". Monks first started saying this to each other in passing within the halls of monasteries as a way to communicate the resolution of dying to your flesh and living anew in Christ. It was then made famous the world over by the stoic Marcus Aurelius when he started using the phrase after he learned of it from the monks.
